About This Vacuum
The Shark NV586 Navigator Powered Lift-Away is a full-size upright that detaches into a portable canister. The motor and canister separate from the base, so you can clean stairs, drapes, upholstery, and ceiling fans without hauling the full unit. In upright mode it handles deep carpet cleaning; lifted away, it reaches above-floor surfaces. Swivel steering navigates around furniture and tight corners with minimal effort. Built-in LED headlights illuminate spaces under beds, sofas, and cabinets, revealing dust and debris in dim spots. It works well in homes with both carpets and hard floors, and for frequent above-floor cleaning like pet hair on furniture. At 18.31 lb, it's heavier than cordless models but runs on plug-in power with no battery to fade. The trade-off is managing the cord and extra weight for unlimited runtime and consistent suction.
Frequently Asked Questions
Strong, on carpet and bare floors alike. There's an adjustable suction control on the hose too, which helps when something gets stuck in the wand. Being corded, the NV586 holds its suction through a long session with no battery running down.
Yes. Lifting the canister off with the powered head still attached makes stairs, cobwebs and upholstery much easier, since you're not hauling the whole 18.31 lb upright up each step.
At first, a bit. The head turns easily, but in several reports it feels odd and tricky until you get the hang of it. After that, the NV586 gets around furniture and tight corners easily, and LED headlights show dust under beds and sofas.
The 2.65 liter bin empties quickly from a hatch on the bottom. The canister and the foam filters rinse out with water, so upkeep on the NV586 is mostly a wash and a thorough dry before everything goes back in.
Mostly, yes. It handles the hair from large shedding dogs well, but hair wraps the brushroll now and then and has to be pulled off by hand. A quick look at the NV586's brushroll after heavy sessions keeps it from building up.
