iRobot Roomba Plus 405 Combo Robot Vacuum

Reliability is its biggest weak spot. A noticeable number of units fail within weeks or months, with dead batteries, error messages, a cracked tank or a robot that won't leave the dock. Run the Roomba Plus 405 Combo often in the first weeks and keep the packaging, so any fault turns up while it's easy to send back.

Not always. Daily dust and pet hair are handled fine in many homes, but debris left behind, missed rug edges and pickup that feels weaker than older Roombas are common complaints. If you're replacing an older model, compare a few runs before deciding the 405 Combo is an upgrade.

Clean, yes, but drying is slow. The pad washing in the dock is well liked, yet the mops can leave wood floors wet, or end up too dry to do much, and dock error alerts come up too. On the Roomba 405 Combo, check how damp the floor is after the first few runs.

Not reliably. The app is easy at first, but lost Wi-Fi connections, lost saved maps and app freezes come up again and again, and the Roomba Plus 405 Combo can get stuck in the same spots run after run. Expect to remap now and then.

Yes, it can. Cords and pet hair wrap around the Roomba 405 Combo, and hair and grime build up on the axles and wheels, which don't come off for cleaning. Pick up cords before a run and plan on picking hair out of the wheels by hand.

It empties the robot into a bag that iRobot says holds up to 75 days of debris, washes and dries the mop pads when a clean finishes, and runs a self-cleaning cycle on itself. On carpet, the robot lifts its DualClean pads away to avoid drips.
